Chapter 3 – Obedience & Revival
God gives Jonah a second chance and again calls him to Nineveh. This time Jonah obeys.
Jonah preaches God’s warning, and unexpectedly:
The people repent.
The king humbles himself.
The city fasts and turns from evil.
God responds with mercy and relents from judgment.
One act of obedience becomes the spark for revival.
Chapter 4 – Wrestling with Mercy
Instead of celebrating Nineveh’s repentance, Jonah becomes angry that God showed mercy.
Jonah struggles with:
Bitterness
Pride
Frustration with God’s compassionGod uses a plant, a worm, and the scorching wind to reveal Jonah’s heart and teach him about mercy.
The book ends with a question from God — inviting Jonah, and us, to examine our own hearts.
1. Write down a Scripture from chapters 3–4 that stood out to you. Why did it resonate?
2. God gave Jonah another opportunity. How have you experienced God’s grace through second chances?
3. Nineveh responded with repentance. What does true repentance look like in everyday life?
4. Jonah struggled with God showing mercy to people he disliked. Have you ever wrestled with forgiveness, compassion, or comparison?
5. God cared deeply about an entire city. How can we better reflect God’s heart for people?
6. Looking back over Jonah 1–4, what has God spoken most clearly to you?
Jonah reminds us:
You can run from God… and still be pursued by grace.
You can fail… and still receive mercy.
You can struggle… and still be lovingly corrected by God.
His mercy is deeper than the storm, greater than failure, and wide enough for everyone He calls.
